Today’s network operators continue to face economic pressures, prompting them to seek new solutions that will lower operating costs and improve service quality, while simultaneously providing new revenue-generating services for customers. For smaller service providers, overcoming these realities can be a challenge due to high SS7 link charges and the cost of STP deployment, which has been prohibitively expensive for all but the largest carriers. Performance Technologies provides the solution to these challenges with the SEGway™ X101 series platform, which reduces current network costs and provides a platform to bring IP-based services into SS7 networks and SS7 services into the IP telephony world. Flexible and Reliable Solutions The SEGway X101 is designed to operate in today’s circuit-switched networks and facilitate the transition to an IP-based SS7 network with either circuit or IP-based links. The use of M2PAenabled devices at the edge further extends the reach of the X101 and enhances both flexibility and reliability. Unused T1/E1 channels can also be mapped through for voice pass-through (x-connect) capability. The X101 scales up to 16 SS7 links with ATM-HSL and 4 SIGTRAN M2PA links with support for multi-variant SS7 and SIGTRAN protocols. The SEGway X101’s I/O options include both T1/E1 and Ethernet interfaces. Comprehensive Feature Set Signaling Gateway When configured as a Signaling Gateway node, the SEGway X101 offers the unparalleled performance and functionality demanded from VoIP, wireline, and wireless networks of today and tomorrow. This powerful signaling gateway has all the standard features and functionality expected to support the convergence of legacy SS7 and IP networks. SEGway’s versatility also includes the ability to extend its capabilities to those of a full featured routing node (STP), including features such as Gateway Screening, Global Title Translation, and Point Code Emulation™. IP Edge The SEGway X101 may also be configured as an IP-Edge solution, which allows carriers to cap their network transport and expansion costs by positioning small, compact, and robust carrier-grade devices within local communities of interest, concentrating SS7 traffic, and backhauling it to an IP-enabled core STP over a managed shared-use IP network. Network-Proven and Standards-Based Solutions SEGway signaling products have been deployed by OEMs and carriers in wireless and wireline configurations across the globe. They conform to ANSI, ITU, and many other standards. Additional protocol variants are available upon request.
