Calling Card

Carriers are moving to implement SIP-based voice-over-packet solutions for many different reasons. Wireless carriers are migrating towards IMS architectures, wireline carriers are implementing VoIP backbone networks to reduce cost, cable providers and other new carriers are extending packet voice directly to the subscriber—and all are interested in the new types of applications featuring media-richness, presence, and web integration that are being enabled on these networks.

Regardless of the different motivations, all carriers that are implementing next-generation VoIP architectures, a common need exists to rate, bill, and otherwise monetize these services.

The PT Xpress™ CallingCard application is based on a robust real-time rating engine and flexible set of call flows that can be adapted to many different uses:

  • As a traditional prepaid or postpaid calling card solution, with pin-based authentication
  • As an international calling add-on package for a cable carrier, allowing customers to be billed a flat monthly rate for a “bucket of minutes” to specified calling regions
  • As a prepaid wireless solution that authenticates subscribers based on calling or called party information supplied in the call signaling
