Message Accounting
A carrier’s signaling network is a valuable asset. It is important for providers to protect this investment by having accounting mechanisms in place to provide accurate, dependable information for intercarrier billing and verification. Due to interconnection complexities surrounding wireless and wireline networks the collection of billing data and reconciliation can be difficult.
SEGway™’s Message Accounting feature is a great way to validate the billing information received from interconnecting carriers without investing in a costly carrier-to-carrier billing system. SEGway Message Accounting gives a carrier the ability to collect detailed signaling data based on configurable MTP3 and SCCP parameters. As an example, setting up an accounting rule defined by two point codes and filtered by the Service Indicator will produce data a carrier can use to identify the volume of a specific type of traffic, e.g. SMS messages.
Message accounting data also provides enormous value to network planners to identify growth requirements within the network or for customer specific performance/call flow analysis.
